Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do you offer separate adult classes.
A. We no longer offer separate adult classes due to the lack of interest. Our regular karate classes are 7 years and up.
Q. Do I have to be “in good shape” to start training in karate?
A. While you should always consult your doctor before starting anything requiring physical exertion, you do not need to be “in good shape” to begin training in karate. everyone trains at their own level.
Q. What if I want to train with my child/children in karate as a family activity?
A. If you want to train with your child/children you may. Regular Karate classes are for ages 7 and up.
Q. My child trained in another style of martial arts; will that affect his/her training at Young Forest Karate?
A. No. Everyone starts out as a white belt regardless of prior martial arts training.
Q. I’d like to enroll myself and my child (or children) in Young Forest Karate but it is too expensive with multiple people. Do you offer any discounts or have any special promotions?
A. We keep the monthly tuition low at YFK and do not require any contracts. If you are having financial difficulty but really want to train, let Sensei Jason know. We have never been about making money. This dojo is here simply for the love of Karate and martial arts in general.
Q. How long does it take to reach Black Belt?
A. The journey to black belt depends on the student. If a student attends class regularly and fulfils all of the requirements to receive a black belt, it may take approximately 4-5 years. Jr. black-belts are awarded to students who fulfil all of the requirements but are under the age of 14.
Q. Does Young Forest Karate hold (or participate) in tournaments?
A. Young Forest Karate does not sponsor any tournaments; however, there are local (open) tournaments held throughout the year which students of Young Forest Karate may participate in.
